Housing Affordability is the biggest single issue Auckland is facing.
The Rodney ward has other localized major issues around roading, transport and infrastructure.
With respect to housing people on low and fixed incomes are most affected with high rents and unbelievable home purchase prices driving them to an alternative "home" - the street, or having to rely on taxpayer help for emergency accommodation. (There are others who choose to live on the street - by choice).
As a Councillor and a leader of the City I am pausing to think about the tragedy of the housing affordability crisis.
Although we may think of this as a "city" problem, sadly there are homeless people appearing within Rodney's townships.
Politically, Auckland Council needs to seriously reflect on its role in creating this problem and to correct their policies and make better decisions, rather than keep blaming central government as the sole cause.
Participating in this fundraising event is a way to immediately help those who are already struggling and having to live rough on the street, in cars and low grade shelter.
On 6 July I'll be sleeping rough in an effort to help those who have been forced onto the street - will you help me by supporting this effort with your donation. I have a goal to raise $2,000. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much :-)
Ps: I would be grateful if you could Share this with your friends, or on Facebook.
