On a cold night in the middle of NZ winter, I will be braving the low temp (and possibly rain) for a night, sleeping outside at the Lifewise Big Sleepout event.. raising awareness and hopefully plenty of donations that will help support youth and young families in Auckland to turn their lives around.. and to help end homelessness.
For me, it is only one night.. for others who live every day and night, homeless on our streets, it's reality.. something many of us will never understand.
Myself, I have been homeless before. Albeit for only a few weeks, in between jobs and houses... I found myself couch hopping when I could muster up the courage to reach out to a friend, but often I would spend the nights (trying to) sleeping in my little Mazda Familia hatchback, with one blanket, shivering all night long. Each morning, I would head off to sneak into the gym shower in the morning with the free trial pass I was given.
Too proud I was to ask for help, too ashamed I was to tell people of my situation and my heart breaks for those who have to deal with this day in and day out. No-one is immune to it. It could happen to you. How would you feel? How do you think you would cope?
I've created this page because I want to make a difference. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Lifewise, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.
Share, share, share!!
Please look into your heart, dig deep into those pockets, and give all that you can (even if only $1) for those who NEED it. Even though I only have a little, I can give a lot. Help me to help others.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot. x
