My Story

Kia ora whanau!

I have signed up to participate in this years BSO as I work for both Lifewise and RainbowYOUTH as the Rainbow Housing Support Worker! My role is to support youth from the rainbow community around the issues and needs of homelessness in whatever way I can.

Half of the homeless population in New Zealand are under 25, and 40% of those young people are LGBTIQ. These figures are scary, but whats even scarier is that 26% of these young people are homeless because they were disowned by their families. As good honest kiwis we need to stand together to change these statistics and look after our own.

So please support me and my team in this journey to end homelessness in Aotearoa. Every little bit that is given goes towards supporting our people, so please hit that 'Give Now' button and give generously!

Team Rainbow is back! And we need your support to raise money in ending youth homelessness in Aotearoa. Each one of us are aiming to raise $2,000 to tackle the issue of youth homelessness that affects us all as a nation. Team Rainbow will be rugging up and heading to AUT on the night of July the 6th to experience something no person should - sleeping rough in the middle of winter. While we are lucky enough to be heading back to our homes on the 7th of July, up to 40% of our LGBTI youth don’t have that choice. This is not surprising when you learn that 34% of young LGBTI people leave home after coming out to their families and experience violence at home.

Last year the money raised by Team Rainbow was used to employ a Rainbow Housing Support Worker as part of a targeted intervention to work with young LGBTI identifying homeless people. This year the money that Team Rainbow raises will be used by Lifewise and RainbowYOUTH to continue the work of providing support young LGBTI people who endure homelessness.

So please, give generously and hit that “Give Now” button as many times as you can in the following months, share our cause on whatever social media outlet you have, and get involved by giving all that you can.

Thank you for your support, it will make a world of difference for our community.
