I’m a documentary producer and I’ve had the privilege, for many years, to share people’s stories – everything from heartbreaking, or shocking, to revelatory, or hilarious. Reflecting real life in Aotearoa is something my amazing team at Greenstone TV love to do. And increasingly, for far too many, “real life” in NZ involves housing insecurity – and homelessness. I live on K Rd, so homeless Kiwis are part of my community and I recognise the complexity in each of their stories. But I don’t ever want it to be “normal” or acceptable for a family to have to sleep in a car, a teenager to sleep in a doorway, for any New Zealander not to have a safe, warm place to call home. I wish we didn’t need to fundraise, this shouldn’t be an issue in a country as rich as ours. But it is - and so I couldn’t say no to the awesome humans at Lifewise.
