After work every night, I get to go home to a shabby-chic, but warm house … cook a healthy meal with fresh groceries and then hang out with my happy, healthy kids.
It’s these simple things in life, that are so easy to take for granted. And we do.
But for way too many New Zealanders now, life isn’t simple. It’s cold, it’s dangerous, it’s complicated, it’s stressful, it’s exhausting and it shouldn’t be the case.
Everyone deserves somewhere safe to sleep and something in their stomach each night.
We should be looking after our communities, our youth, our whanau. But shamefully over half of NZ’s homeless are under 25 and a quarter are kids.
My career has put me in the privileged position of sharing other people’s stories; the good, the bad and the ugly. Poverty and homelessness are ugly and the fact that we have so many of our own suffering is bad. But I also believe Kiwis are inherently good.
We shouldn’t need to fundraise, but Lifewise and what they do is incredibly important. So, my fellow Greenstoners Kylie & Rachel and I, are going to put our butts on the line (and the cold hard concrete) in The Big Sleepout on July 6th. Please help us by donating what you can.
It’s simple. Hit the Give Now button, and thank you, thank you. Every little bit helps!
